Somehow, in some fashion, someone had managed to kill the King of Heroes himself.

It had been particularly difficult to arrange such a thing in the first place. But, Subete, could make it possible, just by the fact that Gilgamesh had been restricted in his current form.

What lured him out in the first place?

A letter asking to meet with him in the library, with the threat to aim for a certain red-haired 'doctor' if he didn't. Of course, it was the third week, and he knew very well it was a trap. But, that didn't matter.

A threat was a threat.

Finding the blond's body wasn't even so much of a concern. With his back up against a bookshelf, the tablet in his still hand, he was found in this way. By who? Why, it was a certain red long-haired man stumbled upon the area, shock in his step at the scene before he fell to his knees.

.

Following the successful capture of the culprit, dread filled those who remained in the group.

But especially one who had an idea of what the King was capable of.

Everyone knew it was going to be miserably come Monday, like it usually was, but how much trouble the vessel would cause was a mystery in its entirety.

Once Monday arrived, everyone awoke with the sudden desire to meet someone 'important' in the living room. The feeling increased further the longer they lingered, and so they eventually began to trickle in. First of which was the red-haired Doctor, grimacing at the sight before all of them.

The furniture that once sat in said room had been discarded, and in the center was a glorious ornate chair. In it sat a man who looked the very same as he did in life.

That feeling from earlier seemed to shift just by being in his presence, and the urge to listen closely to what he said and fall into step was almost suffocating. The only thing that seemed to indicate something was 'off', were the wisps of darkness emanating from him. "So here you are. I had wondered if I'd need to punish any of you mongrels, but that doesn't remain the case for the moment.

You should know the routine by now. And even though you know this, I understand how incredibly stupid you mongrels are, so I'll state it for you:

I won't tolerate anyone who dares to disobey my commands or the established royal decrees. As King, I will execute those who defy me or dare to direct any form of disrespect upon my person. I trust you also all know how to properly address a king so that you do not receive punishment, hm?

I also will assign some tasks to some of you mongrels; if I feel that you've done a poor job in carrying them out, I'll execute you myself."

He didn't even yell, a calm look on his face as he stated these words so coldly and casually, silencing discussion amongst the group for a second. Everyone knew his personality well enough to know that he didn't speak such things lightly. Expressions of trepidation, tension, or nervousness were the norm.

Hikage, however, was one of the few who watched with an expression mostly absent of those things. If anything, he seemed to be paying more attention to him than he had with the other vessels.

Sissel simply went over to place himself close by Battler's feet, tail slightly moving as he watched the King with careful eyes.

Romani, as he was still called for the moment, and despite being the first person to arrive, decided to make himself smaller, seeing if he could draw back so he was at least out of sight from the twisted vision of the Wise King. He couldn't help but think it was a good thing he didn't so much as hint that he wasn't who he was. Though at this time, it didn't matter.

The movement drew the King's attention, causing him to freeze in his spot. The regal blond suddenly declared, looking Romani's way, "The rest of you are dismissed, except for that so-called Doctor."

The red head swallowed thickly, his face looking as pale as a white sheet of paper. Some of those in the group looked ready to protest and hesitated, while some others took the King's comment as quick reason to scatter like their lives depended upon it. Gilgamesh looked mildly displeased and those remaining could feel the temperature drop as he said, "I won't repeat myself again."

Ango frowned, and Romani struggled to say, "I'm...I'm sure it won't take long."

The hidden king didn't even know how he managed to say that with the sound of his heart pounding so hard.

"...K-Keep yourself safe, please," Yachi said, her words practically a tremble before she was dragged away by Dazai and the others reluctantly followed suit, including a confused Battler.

Sissel was the last still around, and then he asked, "Can I stay, Your Majesty? Even if I'm a cat, it won't be too bad if I gave you the respect you deserve by being unwilling to leave the company of someone so great?"

The King laughed. "Very well. Your presence won't be a distraction."

Then he ordered to Romani, "Come closer."

Romani somehow felt his feet move, even if he was starting to feel dizzy, and like his legs would collapse beneath him. He stopped a little ways from the King, who looked mildly pleased, which helped ease a teensy bit of the red head's anxiety that he would die right on the spot. Though he wasn't about to assume he was about to get through this easy. Far from it.

Even if he could tell that Gilgamesh's gaze had turned from frigid to somehow something looking fond, the red head knew better than to assume that spelled anything good. Even with his own feelings and his own heart feeling like it squeezed at the sight.

"Good," Gilgamesh murmured and then he suddenly stood and reached out for Romani with his claw so fast the red head couldn't react.

The 'would-be' Doctor was sure he almost fainted as he felt the metal claws against his cheek. Or maybe he already did for a second and didn't know it. Sissel tensed from his position, the cat thinking the red head received a good dosage of miasma from the touch. But the King drew back his hand, and quite literally the shaking man in front of him.

An unpleasant smile was upon the vessel's lips as he stated, "You have a special duty to perform, Romani. Every day you will be required to attend to my person for three hours. During this time you will give myself your full, undivided attention.

In addition, if you ever feel as if the stress of your position would be too great, I'll grant you the option of allowing myself to kill you as a mercy. I'll promise it'll even be quick and painless. Then you will know the joy of being at my side in more ways than one."

Romani tried to say something, and came out with, "...No thank you, my King."

"Oh? You're rejecting the assignment I've given to you?"

At the sudden frigid tone, the red head protested, "N-no, not t-that! I meant—"

"Yes, I know," The King said suddenly, smirk on his lips. Romani felt himself twitch with somehow a feeling of sudden annoyance at the unexpected tease from the vessel, despite everything. But, he didn't have time to express that in words.

"I'll see you in two hours. Prepare yourself adequately then, Doctor. If you do not receive my presence properly, I'll kill you anyway for the insult," The King idly said, not even reacting to the man being struck with fear, but he made a 'shoo' gesture with one hand, watching as Romani gladly took the chance to make move away. Though when he looked to Sissel, he missed the way the other man dared to glance back.

Sissel asked, "Did you want to make sure he was safe, Your Majesty?"

A pause. The King then laughed and said coldly, "No. I need to make sure he was suffering more than anyone else; the more time he spends in my presence the likelier he'll be to displease me and be punished accordingly. Now, leave. I have no intention to entertain your presence for any longer than I have to."

Once Sissel left, however, Gilgamesh gazed towards the hallway, and then dissipated into thin air. Really he could've done that before. Sending people away before then was just another power-trip gifted by the curse.

Not too far away from the hall, a certain red-haired man had listened in at the last bit of conversation, and then allowed himself to slide down the wall that shielded his presence (not really.)

This week was going to be unbearable.
